Overview

Volunteers participating in the Teaching program in Nepal will be conducting English classes at local Nepalese public or private schools, which are short of staff and are in need of regular volunteers. Tourism is one of the main industries in Nepal and a strong command over the English language can land a sophisticated and decent pay job. It is of a great benefit to working as a volunteer teaching in schools in Nepal, not just for the children from the underprivileged section but the volunteers as well.

All that is required from the volunteers to execute this task is that they should have good English speaking abilities and lots of enthusiasm to work with children. Starting with the basics of the language, the kids would be delighted if they are able to learn simple, short sentences which enables them to understand English and express themselves in the same language.

Sample Placement Profile - Jagat Sundar Bwonekuthi Secondary School
Jagat Sundar Bwonekuthi Secondary School, located in Lakhutitha, Chagal, Kathmandu, was founded in 1991 as a community educational institution. It is affiliated with the National Examinations Board (NEB) and recognized by the Ministry of Education in Nepal. The school stands out as a Nepal Bhasa medium institution, offering instruction in the Newari language as a core subject from nursery through grade ten. This unique approach emphasizes the preservation and promotion of Newari culture and language, making it one of the few schools in the Kathmandu Valley committed to sustained mother-tongue education.

In addition to its language programs, the school provides education up to the secondary level, balancing affordability with quality. It supports students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds through scholarship programs. The curriculum integrates bilingual teaching methodologies, ensuring students gain proficiency in both their mother tongue and Nepali.

Jagat Sundar Bwonekuthi is particularly notable for its community-driven mission, fostering cultural awareness alongside academic development. It serves as a model for culturally inclusive education in Nepal, offering an environment that combines tradition with contemporary learning approaches.
