Overview
Overview
The Sports Development Volunteering Program in Cape Town aims to give sports training as well as life skills such as teamwork and endurance to students and youth from schools in the suburban and township areas. The program runs in conjunction with primary schools, hence volunteers will be placed at local public/government Schools.
As physical education has only been recently introduced in the schooling system of Cape Town, the majority of the schools will not have equipment in place to conduct a sports development program and volunteers are therefore requested to be flexible and use their initiative on this program. The aim of the project is to keep the children and youth busy which would help them in their overall development as well as keep them occupied.
The structure and facilities at the schools vary depending on the locations. Some projects are very well structured while others lack basic resources and infrastructure.
